School of Dentistry:
School of Dentistry was founded in 1965 and began its mission with 120 undergraduate dental students. In 1967 two bachelor programs were added to the existing disciplinary course: Dental Laboratory Technology and Oral Hygiene. Currently and owing to the qualitative and quantitative expansion of its activities, SBUMS School of Dentistry has become one of the most distinguished dental schools in Iran with outstanding achievements an accomplishments at the national and international level, managing to obtain “ISO 9001” international certificate. There are now 1,029 students of dentistry at different levels; including 95 post-graduate students, 11 PhD candidates, 15 fellowships, and 85 undergraduate students in dental prosthesis program. In the latest evaluations by the Specialist & Educational Dental Council, with all the academic standards and indices for the educational scores taken into consideration, SBUMS School of Dentistry has nationally obtained the highest score. In addition to general dentistry, the school offers10 dental specialties, 2 programs at PhD level, 6 fellowship courses, and BSc undergraduate programs in prosthesis directly from high school diploma and/or as a complementary from the associate degree. School of Dentistry benefits from the collaboration of 142 full-time academic staff in 13 different departments, oral and dental health, social dentistry, and prosthodontics. Student-centeredness is the approach that the school is following in its educational activities, in which students are considered as colleagues, being warmly accepted with respect and courtesy. With an area of 16,000 m², School of Dentistry owns modern equipment and technology, as well as state of the art dental clinics and laboratories, pathology labs, and also classes which are equipped with hi-tech audio-visual systems. At the School of Dentistry, several scientific journals regarding recent and latest developments in dentistry are published. The articles published in the Iranian Endodontic journal (IEJ), which is amongst the first top five international journals in Endodontics are indexed in Pubmed and Google Scholar. The two other journals “Triple R and JDS provide prompt publication of the latest and best achievements in basic and clinical research. Currently, major activities at the school are performed through automation and computerized systems; For example, information regarding patients and their admission process, students files such as registration, offered courses and credits, students current educational conditions, etc., the information about the academic staff including their biographies, specialties, scientific activities and interests, etc., the library, research programs, as well as the activities in the finance and supplies divisions are all executed with suitable care and fast. The library, main hall, research center, and IT are all located in the main building and easily accessible to students and academic staff. Departments - Academic Staff School of Dentistry as one of the leading dental schools in Iran has a long history of post-graduate teaching and training. The departments in School of Dentistry include Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral & Maxillofacial Medicine, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, Orthodontics, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Operative Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Dental Biomaterials, Oral Health and Community Dentistry and Dental Laboratory & Technology. Each department has a separately designed specialty program receiving 3-4 students each year through a national university entrance exam. Seven recently approved Fellowship courses include Hospital Dentistry, Orthognatic Surgery, Implant Prosthodontics, Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, Implant Periodontics, Advanced Implant surgery, and oral biology started in October 2008 with 2 students per year for each major.
